Opaque fused quartz - Rotosil

Rotosil and the other OFM grades constitute an own class of electrically fused opaque quartz glass offered by Heraeus. The production process primarily produces rotationally symmetrical objects such as tubes and crucibles with an even, dense wall and a glazed, non-porous inner surface. The outer surface is not glazed and slightly rough. Rectangular shapes such as dishes, blocks, and plates are manufactured by subsequent machining and hot processing.

The standard product portfolio for all three OFM material grades comprises a wealth of different shapes and dimensions. Tubes and crucibles are available with an outer diameter ranging from below 60 mm to about 1000 mm and lengths from about 100 mm to a maximum of 4000 mm while the wall thickness extends from about 6 mm to above 20 mm. Various profiles for crucibles and dishes are complementing the product range. Plates are supplied in circular and rectangular shapes up to an outer diameter of about 1000 mm and maximum thickness of 40 mm.

As an option, the quality of Rotosil can be increased by providing an inner lining of pure translucent quartz glass meaning lower impurity levels. It is also possible to manufacture OFM parts such as tubes and crucibles with fused-on flanges, to add on nozzles or sight glass windows. Since Rotosil can be hot processed to a certain degree, relatively complex components can be fabricated.
